Bio

Dr. Petras holds an Engineering degree in Biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, and completed his Doctoral degree in Biochemistry at the Technical University of Berlin.

The Petras lab develops bioanalytical tools and controlled laboratory model systems to decipher chemical interactions within microbial communities. By integrating high-resolution mass spectrometry, computational metabolomics, and synthetic microbial consortia, his work seeks to uncover how microbes transform endogenous and environmental chemicals and how these transformations influence ecosystem and host function.
