Bio

Prof. Joel Rothman is the Founding Director of the Center for Aging and Longevity Studies at UC Santa Barbara. For three decades, his research group has explored embryonic development, programmed cell death, tissue reprogramming, mechanisms of aging, and resilience to extreme stress, supported by many research grants from the NIH and other agencies. He served as Chair of the Department of MCD Biology and as Director of the Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program. Dr. Rothman has also served on several NIH grant panels, the Damon Runyon Cancer Foundation fellowship selection committee, and as a Trustee for the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
